books books books

will be putting down book titles that i thought were really good or very useful, or bad if that is the case.... and books books books will be the title for those posts from now on

todays book...

Michael Caine "Acting in Film"

i really really like this one

moving forward to the past

Lets go back a bit again,  and talk about a few acting coaches i have had

while i was living in Utah, i signed up with the Professional Actors Workshop (also located in Los Angeles
http://www.professionalactorsworkshop.com/
Lance Williams has been the coach that i have had the best relationship with.  i worked with him for 4 years and he taught me a lot about acting and the business of show.  I still stay in touch with him a bit.

my second acting coach in utah was Anne Sward Hansen  http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0841905/
she was amazing also.  she had a different style, a bit more Meisner technique if i remember correctly

after that i moved to seattle and didn't have any coaching there...
in LA i have had a few... but that is enough for a different blog... the first was sooo intense and gave me a good look at hollywood and kinda the truth behind it

hopefully i will be able to offer good info to people looking for good coaches, classes, books, secrets, blah blah about this place... this crazy place

A bit from the Present

In the last 2 posts i gave a brief history of me... more of my history will come out in future posts.  Alot has happened that i want to share, for your benefit or entertainment...
but for now i wanted to jump to the present, tell you a bit about now

Like i said i am currently working as a waiter to pay the bills while i get acting or singing stuff up and going.  I got extremely lucky and got a job at the famous... or infamous... Beverly Hills Hotel as a waiter in the Polo Lounge.   its been around forever and is an amazing place to work.  i got very very lucky (btw, be nice to everyone, you never know when they might return the favor.  i got this job from a friend that i hadn't talked to in years, and he heard i was moving to LA and decided to help me because a few years earlier i helped him... just sayin)

so thats how i am paying the bills.  as far as acting goes,  i have met some AMAZING people. that, i feel, is the key to success in this city.  you have to meet people.  i have met a few different writers and become friends with them and now they are working on projects that they have offered to consider me for.   More about those projects in the future...

i do want to say, one of my acting coaches, Chris Game (the best i have had so far) said to me,  try to be my friend.  establish a relationship based on interest in me, and not in what i can do for you, and i will do more for you than you can imagine.   Not in quotations, but thats basically what he said.  so thats what i am trying to do with everyone, and i think its a good rule!

First years!

I guess i will start at the beginning, but briefly.  I have been, like most actors, in theater since i was little.  its what i love, what i want to do for the rest of my life.... however, it don't pay!!!
so about 8 years ago i decided to switch to what does pay...film.  between tv, film and commercial, money potential is outrageous.  It draws many many poor souls to this city to try their hand.  And thats what it did to me.
So after years of theater... "Music Man", "Annie", "Comedy of Errors", "Pirates of Penzance", just to name a few....I moved to Utah of all places because it's a great place to start acting because of all of the commercials, disney productions, and the one or two big movies that come in every year.

was there for about 6 years and built up a decent resume, mostly smaller projects but i got my IMDB credit from there, so it was worth it.

after that, i decided to come to Hollywood and see what i could do here, so here i am.  Since i am writing this to catch up on what all i have done, there will be a lot of times when i jump back to times in the past and things that i did before now, so that i can fill you in on them, but for now, that puts me where i am today... working to get things going.

My name is Garet Carson.  I am an actor/singer living in Los Angeles, which also means i'm a waiter, but more about that later.

I wanted to start a blog to talk about what its like working on a career in Hollywood, at least from my perspective, and what its been like for me.

Hopefully this will be interesting to someone, and let anyone who is curious out there know what its like to be here.

It's going to take a while to put down everything that i have seen, experienced, thought, worked on, worked for, ran away from :), and wanted.  Bear with me during this little trip, and hopefully it will be entertaining!!!
